About Westerners and us (Singaporeans)
1. Their facial features are different OBVIOUSLY. But did you notice why? Next time, look at their eyes and forehead as well as their noses. Their forehead is protruding above their eyes to give their eyes a deep set position within their head (read SHARPER features).
Asian (yes, this I dare to generalize) facial features are generally flatter. Our faces are almost like flat pancakes, with the exception of a few (fortunate?) ones. Now you wonder why we all think generally that Westerners are more attractive.
Oh yes, about this I've something to add on. Finnish people are rather like Asians in that their facial features are a little flatter than most other Europeans. At least on some of them.
2. Westerners can walk much more than us Singaporeans. (This is not true for other Asians. I'm sure our counterparts from China will think 6km is nothing too.) Singaporeans think that 2.4km is something that only guys need to run during their IPPT (Individual Physical Proficiency Test) every year. These guys I'm with think nothing of a 6km walk. Nice walk, they said.
Maybe this is because our island country is SO SO SO SMALL. One city in Europe can easily beat Singapore in terms of land size anytime. I've travelled like hundreds of kilometres since I reached Finland. And no, that doesn't include the distance in between Finland and Singapore. That's like probably thousands of kilometres away.
3. Here in Finland, we need to sort our trash before we dispose of it. There's plastic, cardboard, glass, and some other categories. Sometimes its a headache (what category does a juice carton come under?) to sort out these trash, not to mention the smell. Singaporeans would probably just F**K it and throw it all in one packet. But here, we DO sort the trash out. OK in one word, it's probably civic-mindedness that we lack.
4. My Belgian flatmate thinks the weather here in Finland is too warm. He sleeps in the buff, switches off his heater and opens his window. Dare you do that? They normally wear only three layers, maybe four. Probably they're more used to the cold than I am. Watch them come to sunny Singapore (OK maybe not now) and have a good sweat out. And yea, I might try ice swimming this weekend. HEH. (PICS PICS PICS WOOHOO. No, you say woohoo.) There's the Ice Swimming World Championships held in University of Oulu and my Belgian flatmate is going to join it. It's a 25 metre swim. Man.
OK enough of this shiet. I will write more about this if I can think of anything.
