Super red alert but cloudy sky

*UPDATE: Unfortunately some of my friends have forced me to make a clarification on what I meant when I said "...So we waited for an hour, but (too bad so sad) nothing happened*." These linguistically-challenged idiots have taken it to mean I am gay or whatever I am not. I hereby clarify that when I said nothing happened, I meant there were no sightings of Northern Lights. FULLSTOP. Nothing else.

(All comments are made in jest. No hard feelings LOL.)

------------------------------

Need I say more? Sigh. This is sickening. Been here for slightly more than a month and a half, 65 degrees North and yet I haven't got to see the Northern Lights. Everytime when it's RED ALERT, I am at home doing something and I forget to check the website.

So imagine my excitement tonight when I switched on my computer before dinner and hey presto, a RED ALERT. At 7pm no less. So I asked Manu and Thomas to go with me to the lake to see the northern lights. After all, it was a really good increase in the geomagnetic field and much disturbance was recorded!

Alas, to our dismay, the sky was overcast. Not to be overcome by this saddening prospect, Manu and me went to the lake nonetheless. Well, I should say that the lake is a very quiet place. Great for relaxation, just lie there and look into the big big sky. So nice, so cooling (it was just a nice -7 degC, no wind), and I brought newspapers to sit on! Hehe. So we waited for an hour, but (too bad so sad) nothing happened* (see UPDATE).

When I went home, there was a second peak in magnetic disturbances. I was like, WTF. No mood already. Just hope that it will appear in front of me someday. Or do I really have to make a trip down to Rovaniemi? I don't want to waste money on a place just 200km north of mine and see nothing. We'll let fate decide. I am determined not to leave Oulu without seeing Northern Lights.

Better luck next time!
